Chinese authorities are likely to increase the resource tax rate in the second half of the year to encourage more efficient use of resources, said Ma Kai, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), according to the Beijing Morning Post (in Chinese). Ma did not reveal further details, but said the country would continue to reform the price mechanism for oil products, natural gas and coal to achieve a more market-oriented energy price structure. The fuel tax and environment tax would also be imposed at an appropriate future time, Ma said.
