Forestry agency plans for more trees

Zhu Lieke, vice director of the State Forestry Administration (SFA) said in a press conference yesterday that China's land, vulnerable to desertification, is dwindling by about 1,200 sq km per year due to years of afforestation efforts, People Net reported (in Chinese). At the conference, State Foresty Administration director Jia Zhibang also said China plans to plant more trees to double the annual growth rate of its forests in the next 30 to 50 years. The country currently has 187 million sq km of forests.
