Baidu faces new lawsuit over music piracy

A Chinese music website, Yule Jidi (or Entertainment Base), has filed a lawsuit against Baidu, China's No. 1 online search engine, demanding a suspension of a service that allows download it owns for free and US$13 million in damages, Xinhua reported (in Chinese). Wu Duanping, president of Zhejiang Fanya E-commerce Co Ltd, which owns the website, said his company has suffered financial losses because of Baidu's downloading service. The Beijing High People's Court has accepted the case. A group of international music companies including EMI, Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal Music lost a lawsuit against Baidu last year with similar allegations of copyright infringement.
