Olympic firms fined for not paying overtime

Two firms producing official souvenirs for next year's Olympics have been fined a total of US$179,000 for forcing workers to work overtime, state media reported. The employees at the two Shenzhen-based companies, Mainland Headwear Holdings and Yue Wing Cheong Light Products, were forced to work 40 to 53, and 60 to 100 overtime hours, respectively. Both companies have applied for a public hearing and await further penalties. Mainland has since paid workers overtime, while Yue Wing has yet to comply.
