China will begin a training program in 100 cities to help the jobless to open their own businesses in an effort to raise employment, said Zhang Xiaojian, vice minister of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MLSS), Xinhua reported (in Chinese). The trainees will include laid-off workers as well as college graduates and migrant workers, the ministry said. Under the program, each city must train 1,500 individuals a year, with a goal of 50% starting up their own businesses within six months and 80% of the new businesses operating steadily for over a year.
