China passes India as drug trial site

Pharmaceutical

29 August 2007

China is now one of the world's fastest-growing locations for clinical drug trials, overtaking India, the Financial Times reported. A study conducted by the FT showed that China had both more clinical trials under way and more trials completed than India. China had 274 trials in progress  to India's 260, and had a cumulative total of completed or ongoing trials of 510, compared with 471 in India. Both countries are becoming popular drug trial locations as pharmaceutical companies move from their traditional testing grounds in western Europe and the United States. China is expected to become the world's fifth-largest pharmaceuticals market by 2010.
