A Hong Kong software and online game company, CDC, will head an alliance of game developers against online-game piracy in China, the Wall Street Journal reported. The Online Games Alliance Against Piracy will propose industry-wide policies and practices and lobby lawmakers to enact anti-piracy legislation. Counterfeiters have stolen 30% of revenue from China's top online games, CDC estimated. The Beijing-based alliance also includes four Korean game makers and an Icelandic firm, CCP. Online-game pirates copy storylines and graphics of popular games and then run the games on a small number of local servers, usually just for players in one city or province, without paying licensing fees or royalties. The online game industry totaled US$665 million in revenue last year.
