Dell to sell PCs in Gome stores
24 September 2007
Dell announced it will sell its desktop and laptop personal computers through Gome Group, China's largest electronics retail chain, the Wall Street Journal reported. The deal is the latest example of Dell's departure from its direct sales model, as it tries to create a global retail presence to compete with rivals like Hewlett-Packard in markets outside the US. Lenovo and HP have the largest market share in China, while Dell is fourth. The Chinese personal computer market is expected to grow 25% annually over the next three to five years, and it is already the world's second-largest market by shipments. Gome Group is the parent company of Hong Kong-listed Gome Electrical Appliances Holding.
