State Council cuts red tape

China's Cabinet, the State Council, has abolished 128 administrative examination and approval procedures for various public and commercial projects and amended 58, Economic Observer reported (in Chinese). The decision was made during an executive meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao. The move will smooth relations between the government and markets, alternate government function and promote administrative innovation, according to an announcedment made by the council. The State Council has made an overall effort to trim the country's bureaucracy, and has scrapped 1,806 items subject to examination and approval since 2001.
