ING, China Post in cooperation talks

Insurance

10 October 2007

ING is in talks with China Post over providing insurance through a tie-up with the postal service. Hans van der Noordaa, chairman of ING's Asian insurance and investment division, told Shanghai Securities News (in Chinese) that the insurer is interested in using China Post's nationwide distribution to sell its products. ING has expertise in collaborating with postal agencies, he said, citing a joint venture with Japan's postal service. A decision over how the two sides should join up is unclear, as government policies on cooperation between foreign financial institutions and state agencies remain unclear.
