Beijing sets grain import tariff quotas for 2008

China's chief planning agency, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), has released import tariff quotas for grain products for 2008, Xinhua reported (in Chinese). The import quotas are set at 9.64 million tons of wheat, 7.2 million tons of corn, 5.32 million tons of rice and 894,000 tons of cotton. State-owned enterprises will be granted 90% of the wheat quotas, 60% of imported corn, half the rice permits and a third of those for cotton. The application period for these products is from October 15 to 30, according to the NDRC.
