China insists lunar photo is genuine

China's space program defended the authenticity of the first image taken by the country's first lunar probe Chang'e 1, AP reported. The image, unveiled last week by Premier Wen Jiabao at a gala ceremony, quickly became a target for skepticism among commenters on internet message boards in China, some of whom claimed that the size and position were all but identical to photos taken by a previous NASA lunar probe two years ago. China's lunar program chief scientist later responded, insisting that the images were genuine, and saying both countries "took the images in the same region, [so] it's natural the two pictures look alike."
