Former provincial governor on trial for bribery
6 December 2007
Former Anhui province governor He Minxu is facing bribery charges in court in Shandong province this week, Qilu Evening reported (in Chinese). He is charged with accepting bribes totaling more than US$1 million in exchange for promoting government officials, land transfers and project approvals between 1991 to 2006 in different government positions. He stepped down as vice governor of Anhui in August 2006 and was arrested by police in September 28 last year. It is common practice for Chinese officials accused of corruption to be tried in provinces where they have not served.
