Anti-graft website swamped on first day

A website set up by China's new anti-corruption agency crashed within a day of going live due to the large number of complaints posted by members of the public, AFP reported. The National Bureau of Corruption Prevention, which was set up to collect information on graft-related activities, received more than 20 pages of messages, in which notes of congratulation were roughly matched in number by messages expressing skepticism. "Is there any point in setting up this bureau? Unchecked power will of course result in corruption," read one comment. Most messages were posted under pseudonyms. President Hu Jintao has vowed to crack down on corruption, which has become a major source of public dissatisfaction with the government.
