British PM puts climate change on China agenda

British prime minister Gordon Brown will try to get China's support for a new climate change regime when he visits today, AFP reported. Brown, who will visit India after China, said he wants the two countries' support for a post-Kyoto Protocol deal. The Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012. Brown also said he would discuss the condition of the world economy with Chinese premier Wen Jiabao and Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh. His visit, if it follows the pattern established by other European leaders, will also likely coincide with announcements of new investments and trade deals. When French President Nicolas Sarkozy visited Beijing in November, US$30 billion of deals in aviation and nuclear power between France and China were announced.
