Karaoke crackdown imminent

The Ministry of Culture announced a national campaign targeting karaoke parlors and other entertainment outlets, AP reported. The campaign, known as the "Sunshine Project," would aim to stop activities like sex, gambling and drug-taking in China's 200,000 "entertainment enterprises." A notice on the ministry's website singled out karaoke parlors in particular. The campaign, which will run through 2010, will also crack down on the use of unlicensed music at entertainment outlets. The government will give "sunshine" certificates to venues that follow the rules. Local public security bureaus and the Ministry of Health will join the campaign.
