Heavy snows cause deaths, massive travel disruptions

Unusually heavy snow across central China caused extensive damage and killed at least 10 people, AP reported, citing state media. Severe weather in Hubei, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces brought the heaviest snow in 17 years to some areas, stranding hundreds of thousands of travelers in the lead-up to the Chinese New Year holiday. The snow also affected power lines carrying electricity to Shanghai from the Three Gorges Dam. Meteorologists expect the snow to continue until at least Tuesday.
