Singapore Air will not renew bid for China Eastern
19 February 2008
Singapore Airlines said it has no plans to renew its unsuccessful bid for China Eastern Airlines, AP reported. Singapore Airlines chief executive Chew Choon Seng, speaking on the sidelines of a conference in Singapore, said the firm has "no plans at the moment" to renew its bid for China Eastern. The Singapore Airlines bid was rejected in January by China Eastern shareholders. Air China has also expressed interest in bidding for a stake in China Eastern Airlines. Instead of making another bid for the mainland carrier, Singapore Airlines will instead focus on a potential global economic slowdown that could affect air traffic.
