China to set new AIDS policy

China will set new policies aimed at halting the spread of AIDS among homosexual men, Reuters reported, citing state media. China's Ministry of Health announced it would "formulate policies concerning AIDS prevention and treatment among men who have sex with men," as part of its disease-prevention work this year. The Ministry did not give any details of its policy, but such a plan would represent a shift in a country that does not openly discuss homosexuality. China had about 700,000 citizens with HIV/AIDS at the end of 2007, 11% of whom contracted the disease through homosexual sex, according to state media. The Ministry also said it would promote wider use of condoms.
