US says it will share satellite info with China

Politics

22 February 2008

The US is prepared to share some information related to its recent shooting down of a spy satellite that had fallen from orbit with China , the AP reported. The missile strike on the US satellite was ordered due to concerns that toxic material in the satellite's fuel tank could kill and injure people should it fall to Earth. US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the US was "prepared to share whatever appropriately we can." His comments came after Beijing complained that the missile strike could harm security in outer space. Debris from the destroyed satellite appeared to be too small to cause damage to earth, according to US military officials.
