China will form 'super-ministries' to reduce red tape

China will form new "super-ministries" to streamline administration and reduce low-level bureaucrats from interfering in state business, the Financial Times reported. The "super-ministries" will be created during the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC) on Wednesday. The government has not provided details on the make up of the new ministries, but the paper cited officials in Beijing as saying that the new bodies would address transport, industry, energy, telecommunications and the environment. The new ministries may take months to be established. China's top legislative body will also discuss long-term structural reform of the government as well as pressing issues such as inflation, which hit an 11-year high in January.
