At least two reported dead in latest Tibetan clash

State media and rights groups confirmed that at least two people were killed as protesters and police clashed in a Tibetan area of western Sichuan province, AP reported. According to the India-based Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy, a peaceful protest march by monks and nuns in Garze prefecture on Monday turned violent when armed police tried to suppress the 200-strong crowd. The rights group claimed that an 18-year-old monk was killed and another critically wounded by police gunfire. Chinese state media said one policeman was killed after the protesters attacked police with knives and stones. Visiting Lhasa on Monday, Meng Jianzhu, the minister of public security, said that "patriotic education" campaigns in monasteries would intensify, warning that the "Dalai clique" would try and cause further unrest.
