China calls India over Tibet

China's top diplomat discussed Tibet with India's national security adviser on Sunday, Reuters reported. Dai Bingguo, the State Councillor in charge of foreign affairs - who outranks the minister of foreign affairs - called India's National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan to explain China's position on the continuing unrest in Tibet. Dai expressed hope that India would continue to understand and support China's actions concerning Tibet. Narayanan said India still considered Tibet to be a part of China, and that the Indian government does not allow Tibetans to engage in political activities that are counter to the Chinese government. The Dalai Lama, Tibetan Buddhism's spiritual leader, has lived in Dharamsala in India since he fled Tibet in 1959.
