China Mobile, Vodafone team up for research lab
28 April 2008
China Mobile, UK-based Vodafone and Japanese telecom operator Softbank have announced a joint project to research wireless internet services, the Financial Times reported. The three telecom giants' collaboration, to be called the joint innovation lab, is expected to launch this summer. Research will be aimed at developing improved "widget" applications that are compatible on a number of mobile devices, and at speeding up the roll-out of wireless value-added services. The project is seen as a sign of mobile operators' determination not to be shut out of mobile internet software by firms such as Google and Yahoo.
