Hu arrives in Japan for historic visit

President Hu Jintao will arrive in Tokyo today for an official visit, marking the first visit by a Chinese head of state to Japan in 10 years, AFP reported. Ahead of the five-day trip, Hu said he hoped the visit would lead to a "warm spring" with Japan, China's top commercial partner. The visit is largely thought of as symbolic, with Hu slated to be taken on tours of historic temples, play table tennis and discuss finding a replacement for the Tokyo zoo's panda, which died last week. Hu told Japanese reporters that trade issues, including the ongoing probe of pesticide-laced Chinese-made dumplings exported to Japan, were also to be discussed. Sino-Japanese relations are thought to be improving, following long-standing resentment between the two countries.
