Hu wants to share in Japan's green-tech expertise

President Hu Jintao wants Japan to share with China its expertise in "clean coal" electricity production, low-emission cars and energy-efficient electronics, the Financial Times reported. The Chinese leader expressed his desire to accelerate technology transfers with Japan during his five-day visit to the country. Hu told Japanese business leaders that he wanted to make green technology "a new highlight of economic and trade cooperation." It is thought that Japanese technology could help China tackle the environmental problems borne of its rapid economic growth. Chinese steel-makers Baosteel, Shougang and Wuhan Iron and Steel, already use a low-pollution "dry coke quenching" technology designed in Japan. Further technology transfers could come through a US$10 billion fund set up by Japan earlier this year to help poorer countries become more energy efficient.
