Chinese police have killed five members in a raid of a radical Islamic separatist group in the far western region of Xinjiang, AP reported, citing state media. Accounts provided by state media of the raid in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, said two other members of the group were wounded, and eight were detained. All were claimed to be members of China's Uighur ethnic minority but no hard evidence was provided. Chinese officials are ordering increasingly strict security measures in the run-up to the Olympic Games with hundreds of checkpoints expected to go up around Beijing starting next week, the report said.
