China may appeal WTO auto-part ruling

China has reserved the right to appeal a WTO dispute panel's ruling against import tariffs assessed on auto parts, AFP reported. The decision in the case, brought forth by complaints by the US, the EU and Canada, held that surcharges on imported auto parts making up over 40% of a completed vehicle exceeded limits under WTO rules. "The Chinese side does not completely agree with the content and conclusion of the dispute settlement panel's report," the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. China has contended that the tariffs are to prevent auto makers from avoiding taxes by importing large chunks of cars for assembly in China.
