Beijing Olympics organizers say they have met commitments

Organizers of the Beijing Olympics said during a press conference on Sunday that they have met their commitments as hosts for the games, despite mounting criticism over media access, internet censorship and air quality, the Wall Street Journal reported. Sun Weijia, director of the media operations department of the Beijing organizing committee, declined to comment on recent police clashes with reporters from Hong Kong as they covered the chaos surrounding last-minutes sales of Olympic tickets. Sun said that Beijing had "created a very good and very free regulation environment." Sun also said that "internet access is not a problem" despite reporters' claims that many websites are inaccessible through the connection in the Olympics' Main Press Center. Du Shaozhong, vice director of the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, said he was confident that Beijing's air quality in August would satisfy World Health Organization standards for four major pollutants.
