A new program will train 1,000 migrant workers to care for the elderly. The program, organized by the Shanghai Charity Foundation, received US$50,000 from the Rotary Club of Shanghai, state media reported. Training will include lessons on such things as safety and mental health care. Migrant workers who complete the training will work at rest homes or in the homes of the elderly. One migrant worker from Jiangsu province said she had been in Shanghai for three years without finding a permanent job. She hoped the training would lead to better opportunities. The foundation said the program is designed not only to help migrant workers but also to help seniors. China has about 200 million migrant workers, according to Xinhua.
