Bush to criticize China's human rights record

US President George W. Bush will criticize China's human rights record in a speech before his trip to Beijing to attend the Olympic opening ceremonies, Reuters reported. Bush said he will express concern over human rights in China in the speech, to be delivered in Bangkok on Thursday. According to excerpts released before the speech, Bush will say that "America stands in firm opposition to China's detention of political dissidents, human rights advocates and religious activists." In Beijing on Wednesday, a handful of foreign protestors were detained after unfurling banners opposing Chinese policies in Tibet. Three Americans in Tiananmen Square who denounced China's birth control policies were also questioned and released.
