China will blacklist companies for poor quality

China will "blacklist" companies that violate product quality laws and regulations, as well as consider more serious punishment, state media reported. Wang Yong, director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (GAQSIQ), called for "social supervision" of untrustworthy companies. Blacklisted companies will be exposed publicly, and inspection and quarantine departments will create records on product quality and an evaluation system for rating quality, said Wang. Wang said 23,286 products from 20,699 companies were investigated last year. US$53 billion worth of Chinese goods failed to meet quality standards in 2008.
