Government taxes aluminum exports
20 July 2007China will temporarily impose export duties on some aluminum products from August 1 in a bid to reduce energy and resource consumption as well as pollutant emissions, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF). The government will levy a 15% export tariff on non-alloy aluminum rods and poles and scrap the 5% import duty on electrolytic aluminum, Sina reported (in Chinese). more...
Independent test shows "White Rabbit" candy safe
20 July 2007A Shanghai food company on Thursday denied its famous "White Rabbit" candy had quality problems despite a ban by the food watchdog of the Philippines, which claimed samples of the sweets were found to contain formaldehyde and other harmful substances, according to the Shanghai Evening Post (in Chinese). The manufacturer of the White Rabbit, Guan Sheng Yuan, cited an independent report by the Shanghai branch of Shanghai's standards authority as saying that White Rabbit samples were ready to be exported overseas and tested on Wednesday contained no toxic substances. more...
