Carlson to manage new Park Plaza Hotel in Beijing

Carlso RegentBeijingBathroomIn July Carlson Hotels will open a new Park Plaza hotel near one of Beijing’s Olympic venues. The hotel is located in northwest Beijing in the Haidian district, home to several universities and many high-tech start-ups.

Centrally located in this lively district will be the Park Park Beijing West on Chang An Boulevard. The 13-story hotel includes 300 guest rooms, each about 40 square meters, as well as a business center, gym, spa, banquet room and meeting rooms.

Carlson has doubled its presence in China in the last three years, and now manages nine hotels under the Regent, Radisson and Park Plaza brands.

A further six hotels are under development in addition to the Park Plaza Beijing West. Carlson has announced a partnership with top Chinese property developer Sunshine 100, which will see the portfolio more than double with hotels in cities such as Tianjin, Chongqing, Changsha, Shenyang, Yantai, Nanning, Liuzhou and Guilin.

Regent Beijing ranked 11th by Condé Nast Traveler

hotels regent BeijingThe Regent Beijing ranked 11th in Asia at the recent Condé Nast Traveler US Readers’ Choice Awards 2007. This is only six months after its official opening.

The 500-room luxury hotel in Jinbao Street was ranked 11th for the top 75 hotels in Asia by Condé Nast Traveler readers. And in the world list came in at 56. Which is quite remarkable for a relatively recently opened hotel.

Carlson’s other luxury hotel in China, The Regent Shanghai came in at 20 in in the top 75 best hotels in Asia.

The results were derived from the largest independent poll of consumer preferences — the Readers’ Choice Survey. A record number of over 28,000 readers voted this year.

At another awards ceremony held in Shanghai recently, The Regent Beijing was also named one of the best new hotels by Travel + Leisure, which presented awards for the 100 Best China Hotels. The Regent Shanghai earned the best hotel award (Shanghai and Yangtze Delta), while Carlson’s other brands, the Radisson Hotel Pudong Century Park and Radisson Plaza Xing Guo Hotel Shanghai received awards for best new hotel and best hotel (Shanghai and Yangtze Delta) respectively.

New appointment for Radisson Plaza Xing Guo

Gabriel PoliasThere’s a new F&B Director at the Radisson Plaza Xing Guo Hotel in Shanghai (part of Carlson Hotels Worldwide). Australian Gabriel Polias has joined the Radisson with 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He has previously worked in several five-star hotels in Sydney.

Work starts on Radisson Hotel Tianjin Zongkai

Nankai TiajinCarlson Hotels has started developing the Radisson Hotel Tianjin Zongkai, which is in the Nankai District of China’s third largest city, Tianjin.

Nankai district is famous for its cultural education. Some 16 higher institutions, including the renowned Nankai University and Tianjin University,  lie in the district. Students in Nankai are about half the student population of Tianjin. And about 82% of the academicians live there. 21% of district’s population has college or higher education.

The hotel will have an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty Chinese restaurant, a lobby lounge bar, a beauty salon, and a health club which includes an in-door swimming pool.

The Radisson Hotel Tianjin Zongkai is owned and developed by Zhong Kai Investment
and the exterior and interior will be designed by Frank C. Y. Feng Architects &
Associates (HK) Ltd.

The Radisson Hotel Tianjin Zhongkai brings the number of Carlson hotels currently
under development in China to three. There are nine hotels already operating in China under the Carlson hotel brands of Regent, Radisson and Park Plaza.

Carlson comes to Beijing

ParkPlazaBeijingCarlson Hotels Worldwide has added the 394-room Park Plaza Beijing Science Park to its portfolio.

Carlson Hotels Worldwide is one of the major operating groups of Carlson which provides corporate solutions and consumer services in the marketing, travel and hospitality industries.

The hotel has 394 rooms on 18 floors and was built in 2001. It has all the usual meeting facilities plus a health club, a massage service, a jogging track and a hot tub.
