Airports handle 20% more passengers

February 9, 2010: Chinese Mainland airports handled 486 million passengers last year which is a rise of 20% from the year before.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China said that last year passengers made 449 million trips on domestic routes, rising 22% from a year earlier, and 37.05 million trips on international routes, declining 1.9%.
 
Ally Ma, a Citigroup analyst, said, "Considering volume driven by the World Expo and the Asian Games, we project Chinese air travel to grow 18% this year and push load factors to a record high of 79% with a corresponding double-digit increase in airfares."
 
Fourteen out of 166 Mainland airports each delivered more than 10 million passengers last year, compared with 10 airports in 2008.
Among them, passenger volume in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou accounted for 32.8% of the total.
Shanghai Daily reported fifty-one airports delivered more than 1 million passengers each last year, compared with 47 airports in 2008. 
The airports handled 9.46 million tons of cargo last year, rising 7.04% on the year.
