Car MP3 players major export
7 April 2008
[photopress:it_mp3_player.JPG,full,alignright]China is home to over 50 manufacturers responsible for producing more than half of the world's supply of car MP3 players and FM transmitters. Our illustration shows an MP3 player which will accept input from another MP3 player. As demand for in-car audio products continues to skyrocket (as far as in known no new cars are now sold without such a device) makers are ramping up their production capacities and are producing better quality models with sleeker designs. The problem is that car sizes are dropping and manufacturers at the low end of the market are continually looking for ways to shave prices on non-safety items. The result is that although the MP3 players themselves will produce sound of a highish quality — it is far from perfection — the speakers are small, cheap and very nasty. Any user who has any appreciation of music will find an improvement of several magnitudes in the quality of the sound by having the original trash speakers removed and replaced with medium quality speakers. The change is astounding. Thus China is producing half the MP3 sound sources but, sadly, is not reponsible for the final quality of the output.
