China, Germany and Russia rail connexion

By Gareth Powell January 4th, 2007

freightrainChengduChina, Germany and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation which is a sign that we will see Eurasian railway transportation for the movement of freight by rail. A working group made up of the three parties, along with their Customs service organizations is developing a schedule for the joint operation as well as conducting market research on rail container freight between Asia and Europe. Additionally it is developing the legal, economic and organizational framework for such a joint venture.

The next step is possibly the creation of a joint venture company as early as April or May. There are already rail links between the three countries and freight is being railed from China to Germany in under two weeks. This sort of co-operation seems inevitable and will improve the logistics between China and Europe by a substantial factor.
