One comment is that the stock price is less than cash. And it seems to be true. Noah’s SEC filings confirm Noah has the equivalent of about $150 million in the bank — not bad for a stock priced under $120 million.

In the fiscal year ending June 2007, Noah cranked out $4.7 million in free cash flow. There are still a lot of doubts voiced but at least the figures look good.

This coincides with the fact that Praxair Praxairhas signed a long-term supply contract with Anhui HuaYi Chemical, an affiliate of Shanghai HuaYi (Group) Co., Ltd., one of the largest chemical groups in China.

Professor Joan Stringer, principal and vice-chancellor of Napier University, Scotland, was given the award by China’s Henan province in recognition of her individual commitment to developing higher education in China and Napier’s long-standing links with both the Henan province and China as a whole.

The Yellow River Friendship award is a National Day Award presented to foreigners who have made an outstanding contribution to the economic development and social progress of the people of central China.

For example, more and more Chinese students reside in Korea illegally

According to data from Korean Immigration Service, there are 10.3 % of foreign students with a D-2 visa, 16.1% of students for learning Korean languages with a D-4 visa and 53.1% of other students with a C-3 visa.

It was pointed out there are many problems related to management of foreign students.

Universities don’t have a strong system enough to assist residential service, provide Korean language education and teach in foreign students’ languages. They also lack policies for attracting foreign students and managing them and lack measures for supporting them to have jobs after graduation.

20 universities participating in survey advertise themselves by publishing PR brochures (90%), operating homepages in foreign languages (80%), participating in study fairs (65.5%), and visiting overseas universities (75%).

When universities select students they put top priority on students’ motive to study and their study plans (70%) as a selection standard, followed by Korean language abilities (20-30%).

60% of them have only Korean language class for the students.
75% of surveyed universities have classes in English.
20% of them have classes taught in their mother tongues.
80% of those surveyed have exclusive programs for helping students to adapt to school lives.
45% have students’ association.
33% hold events for cultural exchange.
65% of them assist students in terms of study and gettingjobs after graduation.

They recommend most students to get a job in their homelands even though that was perhaps against the original purpose of attracting foreign students.

44% of Korean students at top American universities give up their studies halfway through.

This compares with 34% of American, 25% of Chinese and 21% of Indian students.

The results come from tracking students registered at 14 top American universities — Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Amherst College, Duke, Georgetown, Brown, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania and Princeton — between 1985 and 2007.

Korean students appear to consume 75% of the time available for studying, while they allocate only 25% percent to extracurricular activities such as community service.

In contrast, American students and those from other countries tend to equally share their time for both study and other activities.

A total of 103,789 students attended this year’s exam, and 78,817 of them were admitted.

Univerities of choice for students are Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Beijing Normal University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and others.

Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, told a working conference that with the rapid development of universities, the anti-corruption task in the higher educational field had become more arduous.

Statistics from the CPC’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection showed that 58% of corruption cases which occurred in universities were found in infrastructure construction, purchasing and financing departments.

In recent years, China’s educational institutions have seen a rise in the number of bribery and other scandals.

Corruption found in universities has accounted for one fourth of the total cases uncovered in the educational field, according to the discipline authority.

A one-day 3rd Sino-German education forum, focusing on professional education cooperation, was jointly hosted by the Confucius Institute of Hamburg and Germany’s KWB company.

Monika Auweter-Kurtz, chancellor of Hamburg University, seen here, said the university, which has more than 200 overseas Chinese students and scholars, has attached great importance to cooperation with Chinese higher-learning institutes and hoped to expand academic and personnel exchanges.

Education Counselor of Chinese embassy Jiang Feng said that nearly 37,000 Chinese students are currently studying in German colleges and universities, while more than 3,000 German students are studying in China.

To address these concerns Vice Education Minister Lu Mu-lin  said students from the mainland would not be vying directly with their local counterparts for enrollments in Taiwan’s universities, as they would have separate quotas.

It would be impossible to ask students from the mainland to take all the aptitude tests and entrance exams that Taiwan students currently are required to sit for.

The Education Ministry will seek to revise the law to allow students from the mainland to to study in Taiwan but Lu Mu-lin said the ministry is still working on details concerning quotas and enrollment procedures.
