Chinese thieves set new standards for incompetence
June 1st, 2007According to the Beijing News seven con men set up a card game this month outside a Beijing hotel holding a national conference. The thought was the attendees at the conference would be rich and easily scammed out of their money.
The newspaper reports: ‘In several days, not a single person fell for the scam.’
Later, at a different hotel, the men stole several satchels being distributed at a conference, hoping to find valuables. But the satchels merely held books with ‘numbers and formulae’ on their covers. So the men decided to use the books as pillows.
The thieves were awakened by police and detained. It is this sort of incompetence that gives criminals a bad name.
