Boozing bear likes beer, but drinks responsibly
By Gareth Powell October 19th, 2007
A black bear in a wildlife zoo in Weihai, East China’s Shandong Province, likes his beer but knows when to stop. He is not of Australian ancestry.
The 10-year-old bear likes drinking beer — it can down a bottle of beer in just a few seconds.
After finishing one bottle, the bear will fold its paws into a bow, indicating to zookeepers that it wants more. But as soon as it finishes a six-pack, the bear will stop drinking no matter how hard the keeper pushes it to having more.
Mark you, it is not being offered a Cascade from Tasmania (Australia’s finest beer), a Foster’s, which is very drinkable, nor yet a XXXX from Queensland, which is spelled that way because most Queesnslanders cannot spell ‘beer’. Thus we cannot easily make up our minds if the bear is abstemious or just a connoisseur.
